The health and well-being of all our students at Albany Elementary is very important to us. Our school has a registered nurse, Mrs. Paula Richardson, in the building from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Health services provided include vision screenings, dispensing medication/treatments according to physicians’ orders, and maintaining immunization/health records. On a typical day, Mrs. Richardson cares for tummy aches, minor bumps, scrapes, and provides TLC.
Current immunization requirements under Indiana State Law are:
- 5 DTAP
- 4 POLIO
- 3 MMR
- 2 VARICELLA
- 3 HEP B
- 2 HEP A
A child is considered ill and should not be in school if any of the following conditions exist:
- Temperature of 99.6 degrees or high (must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before returning to school)
- Eyes are swollen, red and draining
- Uncontrollable cough
- Head colds of any consequence
- Throat is sore or inflamed
- Ears are draining
- There is evidence of impetigo or persistent skin disorders
- Undiagnosed rash
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
