Title I is an in-class or pull-out program (as needed), to give at-risk students supplemental instruction in reading and reading-related areas as well as mathematics. The instructional assistants give more individualized attention to the students and their needs, and build self-esteem and confidence. All supplemental instruction is directed by the classroom teachers, and supplemental tools such as literacy activities, guided reading groups, and technology are used.
Family involvement is another part of Title I, and activities are typically offered throughout the school year. Title I Open House occurs in the fall, and a family activity night is usually planned for the month of January. As in the past, Title I looks for an opportunity for parents/guardians to attend parent nights to learn more about helping to develop educational skills at home.
