School Nurse

The health and well-being of all our students at Albany Elementary is very important to us.   Our school has a registered nurse, Mrs. Paula Richardson, in the building from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Health services provided include vision screenings, dispensing medication/treatments according to physicians’ orders, and maintaining immunization/health records.  On a typical day, Mrs. Richardson cares for tummy aches, minor bumps, scrapes, and provides TLC.

Current immunization requirements under Indiana State Law are:

  • 5 DTAP
  • 4 POLIO
  • 3 MMR
  • 2 VARICELLA
  • 3 HEP B
  • 2 HEP A

A child is considered ill and should not be in school if any of the following conditions exist:

  • Temperature of 99.6 degrees or high (must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before returning to school)
  • Eyes are swollen, red and draining
  • Uncontrollable cough
  • Head colds of any consequence
  • Throat is sore or inflamed
  • Ears are draining
  • There is evidence of impetigo or persistent skin disorders
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the last 24 hours

Parents are always welcome to call Mrs. Richardson with any questions or concerns.
